A shocking error of judgement at BBC Radio London tonight as a racist, homophobic and generally abusive troll was kept on-air for more than a minute after first using the N word as the oblivious presenter continued to ask him questions about board games.
I’ve no idea what the presenter thinks he heard, but it certainly wouldn’t have gone unnoticed to listeners. Perhaps more importantly, where is the producer in all of this? They're certainly not short of resources.
Unlike commercial phone-in radio, the BBC don’t broadcast in delay enabling offensive language or libel to be “dumped” before making it to air.
Traditionally, it was claimed the Beeb is editorially equipped to prevent and deal with these sorts of incidents before they occurred.
In reality, while they may have more pairs of ears, they’re no better prepared for this than commercial radio.
However, even a dump button requires the attention of the presenter/producer, which clearly wasn’t present in this case.
