RadioToday has published BBC Director General Tim Davie’s full speech to staff on the corporation’s "digital-first" future, announcing £500m of annual savings.
The Twittersphere is focused on the BBC News/BBC World News merger and the removal of linear channels including CBBC and BBC Four as well as R4 Extra, R4 LW and 5L MW.
Local Radio is being overlooked - a metaphor, you might say!
It makes sense to share some programmes at times of the day when we have the least audience impact. We will maintain local news bulletins throughout the day and protect live sport.
My thoughts are with everyone facing uncertainty.
News and sport is essential but the network’s overall impact comes from being a friendly companion to older listeners.
Whether it's networked or local programming, let's hope BBC management focuses on this at all times and that it is at the heart of every decision made.
